Travel theme: Autumn

A very seasonal travel theme from Ailsa this week (click here to see other entries). As well as the usual falling leaves, autumnal colours and longer, colder nights, autumn in our neighbourhood also means it’s time for our annual local arts festival. I didn’t have time to take any photos of Made in Roath this year because I was too busy being a part of the festival, but here are some photos of last year’s activities.

Travel theme: Bountiful

When I read that Ailsa’s travel theme this week is Bountiful, I immediately thought of our little community garden. OK, we may not be feeding the entire neighbourhood just yet, but we have seen some pretty good harvests for a previous piece of waste ground run by volunteers.

Travel theme: Inviting

For her travel theme this week, Ailsa has asked us what we find inviting. For me, it’s:

Fresh snow…

My favourite vegetarian restaurant…

Ripe grapes, ready to pick…

And a treehouse hidden in the forest…

Travel theme: Noise

My goddaughter trying to drown out the noise of a fire engine

I thought I would flip this week’s travel theme on it’s head. Instead of posting pictures of things that make noise, I’m using a shot that shows the effect of noise. This photo of my goddaughter was taken a few years ago when she was still a baby. We were at a charity fun day, and the local police and fire brigades had kindly come along to show the children their vehicles. All the other kids loved turning the fire engine siren on full blast, but my goddaughter didn’t look too impressed. Things have changed since then – nowadays it’s usually her making the most noise!

Travel theme: Merchandise

Ailsa’s travel theme this week is Merchandise (click here to see other entries). This one’s got me thinking. I don’t usually take photos of this subject. It’s not that I don’t want to, but I’m generally not allowed to. Retailers think I’m a shoplifter at the best of times (I’m not, but apparently it’s something about the way I look), so if I start taking photos they panic and think that I’m planning a break-in. However, I’ve had a dig through my photos to see what I can come up with.

A quick Welsh lesson for those who don’t already speak the language this week. If you learn just one word in Welsh, make it ‘Peryglus’. And, if you ever read it on a sign – STAY AWAY!

Travel theme: Orange

Orange is my absolute favourite colour, always has been, so Ailsa’s travel theme could have been picked for me this week! Click here to see other entries.

Many people describe the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco as red, but it’s actually a shade of orange.

Like all the ex-miners who work there, Andrew wears bright orange overalls when he’s at Big Pit.

And it seems they like orange in LA too!

Travel theme: Horizons

Ailsa’s travel theme this week is Horizons (click here to see more entries).

Horizons are very important to me. They help to stop me feeling claustrophobic. When I can see the horizon, I know there is somewhere else I can venture to, an escape with new adventures to experience. Coastal horizons are my particular favourite. I grew up by the sea, and looking out over open water with no other land in sight calms me and reminds me of home.

I’ve seen quite a few horizons during my travels, from the beautiful to the extreme.

Travel theme: Endearing

Ailsa’s travel theme this week is Endearing. And, as she aptly demonstrates on her post, possibly the most endearing beings on the planet are animals.

Travel theme: Simplify

Ailsa’s travel theme this week is Simplify (click here to see more entries).

Simplifying life for me is going camping. No electricity, no gadgets, no hustle and bustle. Just me, the tent and in recent years my godchildren too. Here are a few of my favourite camping spots from previous trips.
