I’m a bit late joining in the photo challenge this week, but I wanted to add my Companionable contribution. Click here to see other entries.
I have had many travelling companions accompany me on my adventures, but there was only one that I could pick for this challenge.
Malcolm the Monkey has been joining me on holidays and trips for over twenty years. My dad bought him for me at a service station in Belgium when I was twelve, and I named him after our coach driver. He’s hung off my backpack, camped in the desert and survived many a Greyhound journey. In this photo he’s taking in the view over the Grand Canyon.
This week’s photo challenge has been really tough for me. Try as I might, I couldn’t find a photo or subject that symbolised love for me. Then today, out of the blue, my two year old goddaughter gave me the answer.
Last Friday we had a charity day in our office to raise money for CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young). We raised over £700, which is amazing (well done to all my generous colleagues). One of the games was ‘Name the Bear’, which I won (his name is Hugo in case you’re wondering). I strapped Hugo into the back seat of my car, and he’s been travelling around with me for the past few days.
This afternoon, I went to pick my goddaughter up to take her swimming, and as soon as she saw Hugo she exclaimed ‘Monkey!’. She immediately picked him up, cwtched (hugged) him, and didn’t want to put him down again. I was immediately reminded of my instant love for my monkey soft toy Malcolm when my dad bought him for me at a service station in Belgium when I was twelve. Malcolm has accompanied me on most of my travels ever since. So, for this weeks theme, here’s a photo of Malcolm enjoying the sunset over the Grand Canyon.
This post is my entry to the Weekly Photo Challenge: Love.
