Weekly Photo Challenge: Escape

Ten years ago, I escaped my life in the UK.

I escaped my upbringing in England, and the pressure that it brought me.

I ran away abroad, to work seasons and live the life I’d dreamed of as a child. For the next six years, I travelled between Greece, Austria, America and Canada. I never thought about my life more than six months ahead, constantly planning where I would live next and what I could do to survive.

July 2013 will mark the fifth anniversary of me returning to the UK. There are many reasons that I came back. I don’t regret my decision, but the pressures that I left behind in the UK are definitely still here.

So how do I escape now?

Simple – I pack up my camping gear on a Friday, pick up my godson after work and we head off on an adventure for the weekend. One of our favourite places to camp is Whitesands in West Wales.

This is my escape.

      1. I attempted to do the Bala Challenge last weekend (post coming soon). I made it to the top of Aran, and although we had a lot of adverse weather the one thing we didn’t see was snow πŸ™‚

    1. It is a beautiful area. The first place I visited in West Wales was Whitesands. Luckily it’s the easiest to find. Just keep heading west, and when you hit the sea you’re there πŸ™‚

  1. I love your entry! What a great story Nd I hear you that the pressure of life is always there but wonderful that you found a new place to escape. Yor campsite is spectacular!

  2. I’ve only been in North Wales for a few days but it’s beautiful. I’m glad you have a place to go to escape from the tensions that are still present. That certainly helps manage them.

    1. Definitely! I’ve lived in Wales for about 10 years, but I’m ashamed to say I’ve hardly explored any of it. I’m making a real effort to visit new places this year, including Anglelesey next week – I can’t wait!
